She watched him sitting next to her as he spoke. Not across the booth like most men she’d dated had done. But NEXT to her.
God was she even dating this man?! No. They weren’t even dating the first time they had slept together. Or the 7th. They’d never been dating. They’d just been…. ughh! Who even knows! Isn’t the confusing parts about men supposed to go away in your 30s?! Isn’t that what all the books she’d read shown?
Yet here she sat. Side by side with this man. This enigma. More confused than she’d been about anything in her life.
Why did he have this effect on her? What was it about him? How did they seem to feel so “connected” despite having barely just scraped the surface of knowing each other? And why on this green earth did the Universe keep throwing him in her path if it was just going to keep amounting to nothing?!
She sat and looked at him as he talked. Engrossed in his every word, his every feature. When he realized she was studying him. He looked back and blushed! This giant 200 lb. man actually blushed! Who even was this?!
That was it. She was a goner.
What a perfect sight.
With the sun setting behind him the light bounced off the patio outside, closed now because of the chill, and illuminated his broad silhouette. Strong jaw line, wide shoulders, proud chest, perpetually smirking. This man was an undeniably beautiful creature. But it was more than that.
The light behind him only brought out the confidence more in his voice when he spoke. It brought out his passion more when he moved his hands as he told his story. It pulled her into the power behind his eyes. Usually they were dark, captivating. But in this light, at this time of day, they shown more amber. More full of… something. She was afraid to name what stared back her. Afraid because that might make it real. Or worse. She might be wrong.
What if they were just sharing a moment?
What if? They were simply just a moment.
