A moment IV

They had just finished making love for the 4th time that night. Although, at this point it was well into morning. She always held onto the nights with him just a little longer. She could feel his heart beating next to her as her arm lay sprawled out across his fuzzy chest. Maybe she just had never noticed but he was fuzzier this time. She liked it. Rolling over and rubbing her face where her hand had just been, she kissed the center of his chest before rolling back to her side of the bed so she could look at his ridiculously handsome face.

He pulled back the blankets and stood up from the bed. His dog stood up with him and wagged his tail ready for a morning walk. He informed her that he was going to make coffee and nodded like he agreed with his own decision and walked off into the kitchen. She laughed and rolled to peak at him through the door. His dog plopped down in disappointment realizing it was not his turn for attention just yet.

She watched as he measured his coffee and put the water in. Then watched as he put away, barely, the glasses and bottle of wine from the night before. It felt strangely intimate to see him going about his routine, his day. But then again, intimate would be the perfect word to describe the last 12 hours. She took a deep breathe, this feeling was not the intention she had driving here last night.

GOD. Last night. She knew coming here that it would be intense. It always was with him. Sitting on the couch after she got here last night her hands could barely keep from shaking. It was that crackling energy between them that kept her coming back. It was that same energy that had made finding anyone else since meeting him damn near impossible. Scenes began flashing through her mind of all the times they had been together.

She heard him pad back into the bedroom barefoot, and her attention snapped back to the present. He half laid down, half sat on the bed and she scooted closer to him to rest her head on his body while they waited. She was still completely naked under the blankets and despite the worshipping that occurred, she was still quite self-conscious about her body. He watched her hold the blanket up to cover herself but said nothing.

They talked about a few things but mainly sat in silence seeming to just feel each other.

After a few minutes he started to get up asking to be reminded how she liked her coffee. A little milk and 2 sugars was her response. He smiled and thanked her for being “normal.” She laughed and told him he needed better taste in women if this was impressive. He squeezed her arm instinctively with that stupid smirk on his face and got up to make get their drinks.

As he came back into the room carrying 2 cups of coffee, handing her the smaller of the two. She reached for the cup and in doing so let the blanket fall to her waist. He sat on the bed next to her and they quietly drank their coffee.

They sat like this for about 20 minutes. Some words were spoken, banter, but mostly there was silence.

She sat and closed her eyes sipping her coffee. There was way too much milk in the coffee and she was lactose intolerant, yet somehow this felt like the most perfect cup of coffee she had ever had. It was that thought that crossed her mind when she felt something heavy plop on her arm near her elbow where she held the coffee cup almost spilling. She opened her eyes and looked down to see his pup staring lovingly up at her and she beamed ear to ear.

She asked the fur-dad to take a picture. She wanted to keep this moment, this man, this dog. She wanted to stay right there forever.

When he moved to grab his phone, the dog removed his head from her arm and the photo op was gone. She looked over to say forget it, but that devilish man still had his phone in his hand aimed at her and her new best friend. She looked away back towards the dog because she felt so much in that moment seeing him look back at her. She did not trust her words, and her eyes always gave her away.

She was unsure if he continued to take the picture, but she was reminded of how naked she was. Not only because she had let the blanket drop, but because she had finally let the walls drop. She was not just naked sitting there, she was raw. To her amazement she was something else too. She was safe.

They finished their coffee, he removed the cups, and pulled her back down to the bed shortly after that realization.

He pulled her down to his chest and she could feel his heart beating again this time against her ear. She looked up and kissed him gently at first. Notes of coffee and desire poured into her being during that kiss. Whatever happened after today, She was never going to be the same.

In a few days she’d be on a plane to a different life.

They made love for the 5th time.
