How do you really say “I’ll miss you for always but I’ll hold you never” in a text anyway?
It probably sounds like “here’s this article it made me think of you.”
To which the last response will always read “read on 2/14”- a grey bubble never to see blue again.
The unspoken words carried across the same grey of the cold winter sky.
How do you say- “I’m forever proud of and incredibly impressed by you.”
Without razor sharp shards down your throat, swallowing each syllable in the silence of “but when you cross my mind, I want to throw up thinking how much we could have loved each other by now.”
It probably sounds like “happy birthday darlin’, I’m sorry I’m late.”
We always seemed to be just a little too late.
A train station drop-off, an unexpected flight, a whole different life.
Those are the paths we chose instead.
And still…. the thread of “I’ve loved you for lifetimes but I’ll hold you in the next ” lingers beneath my finger tips.
Probably sounding like silence across the miles.
